5 places to get a taste of America
Brussels is one of the most international cities on the planet, so it’s no surprise that you can find cuisine from all over the world in just a short walk. Today we’re headed to the US of A, so I hope you’ve got some room in your stomach, because we’ve got five places to get a taste of America.
Walk Details
Distance: 4km
Walking time: 50min
1
Elbow Lunch Counter
Rue de la Paix 32, 1050 Bruxelles
Stepping into Elbow is like stepping right into a New York City lunch counter. You’ll be greeted with the friendly American accent in English and welcomed with a bowl of chips. Sandwiches are king at Elbow, and nothing reigns more supreme than their pastrami. If it’s the weekend, the pastrami on rye should be your play, or the pastrami melt on weekdays. With everything from Philly Cheesesteaks to homemade sodas, Elbow is quite a treat!
2
Rambo
Rue Washington 7, 1050 Ixelles
There’s no shortage of burgers in Brussels, and in the recent years, no shortage of smash burgers. Yet, for me, there’s only one burger that really, truly, tastes like America—the cheeseburger at Rambo. Topped with American cheese, their homemade burger sauce, and served with some legit, American style fast-food fries, Rambo can easily become addictive.
3
Chez WaWa
Rue Américaine 91, 1050 Bruxelles
It’s hard to miss the pink exterior of Chez WaWa when walking down the appropriately named Rue Americaine . Serving “California-style” Mexican food, this is the place to get a burrito and taco bowl to your liking. Here, you roll your own way, by creating your perfect, custom burrito or taco bowl. The ingredients are fresh and bright, and of course flavorful. They also do a Cali-Mex Brunch on Saturdays with enchiladas, quesadillas, and breakfast burritos.
4
Fight Club
Chau. de Waterloo 50, 1060 Saint-Gilles
We all know the rules… but we’re breaking them, because we have to talk about Fight Club. The only place in all of Brussels to find legit New York Style pizza. I’m talking those floppy, cheesy slices that are bigger than your face. It’s also about as close as you can get to American pepperoni outside of the States. They also have a good selection of vermouths worth sampling.
5
Holy Smoke
Av. de la Prte de Hal 9/10, 1060 Bruxelles
I don’t know how they did it, but they actually shipped an entire American smoker to Belgium. At Holy Smoke, indulge in some American, Texas-style BBQ. It seems crazy to me to get anything other than the 20 hour smoked brisket here, but both their beef and pork ribs are also pretty damn good. They also have a vast collection on American whiskeys. So go on ahead, you deserve a strong one!
