5 stops to snack your way through Saint-Gilles
Saint-Gilles is one of my favorite communes when it comes to food. Not only are there some of the city’s best restaurants, but it’s also a great place for drinks as well. The focus of this walk is Belgian food and Belgian beer, so enjoy and discover five stops to snack your way through Saint-Gilles.

1
Moeder Lambic Original
Rue de Savoie 68, 1060 Saint-Gilles
Lambic beer is unique to the Brussels region and surrounding Flemish and Walloon Brabant areas. Lambic is a wild yeast beer, that can only be brewed here in Belgium. There’s no better place in all of Brussels to try these sour and funky beers than Moeder Lambic. This is their original location, as there’s now one in the Center as well. Check their current menu for what’s on tap, as it’s always changing.

Fernand Obb Delicatessen
Rue de Tamines 27, 1060 Saint-Gilles
Now that we’ve got a beer in us, let’s grab something to munch on, and what better than a piping hot croquet! Fernand Obb is regarded as one of the best croquette spots in the entire city even if they’ve only been around since 2017. Personally, I could eat my weight in their shrimp croquettes, which has been voted best in the city twice. Also, the waffle fries, or gaufrites are also worth ordering along side.
3
Friterie de la Barrière
Av. du Parc 5, 1060 Saint-Gilles
Often included on the best-of-Brussels-fries lists, Friterie de la Barrière has been in this spot, just off the Barrière roundabout since 1960. Expect the classic Belgian fries served up in a cone with the sauce of your choice. Admittingly, the last time I was here I waited over 90min in line for their fries, so if you come at peak times, the wait can be long. Is it the best fries in Brussels? We’ll you’re going to have to find out for yourself now aren’t you?
4
Patatak
Parv. de Saint-Gilles 31, 1060 Saint-Gilles
Hope you’re not too full yet, because Patatak, on the pedestrian Parvis de St Gilles, is home to some of the best artisan fries and croquettes around. At Patatak, everything is handmade and local, with their potatoes coming from a farm just 30km from Brussels. This is a great spot to try one of their Fricadelle, a fried Belgian sausage, which is (in)famous when it comes to Beligan snacks. I always go with their Croquette de Herve, made with a pungent Belgian cow’s milk cheese that’s heavenly when fried. Did I mention it’s served with a Liege syrup and kreik sauce? Oh, and if you’ve still got room for more fries, their sweet potatoes fries are damn tasty.
5
L'Ermitage Saint-Gilles
Rue de Moscou 34, 1060 Saint-Gilles
Let’s end with another beer, shall we? This is the taproom of Brussels microbrewery L’Ermitage. The brewery is located just 1.5km away in Anderlecht, but the taproom here was opened just a few years back. Known for their hoppy and sour beers, L’Ermitage is one of Brussels’ microbrewing OGs. They’re always coming out with new brews, interesting collabs, and surprising combinations. So have another beer and enjoy!
